About Alexej Sachov
Ukrainian-German conceptual artist working exclusively underwater. The ocean as studio, laboratory, and archive.
Alexej Sachov (b. 1972, Kharkiv) is a conceptual artist whose photographic work is produced through scuba diving. With a background in rocket engineering and formal training at the Kyiv Photography School (2019–2023), he explores emergence, transformation, and survival of life.
He works with abstractions formed by natural processes, tracing connections to art history and investigating how form and color emerge. His methods include long exposures, a Big Bang staged with collected marine debris, close studies of corals, waves, and bubbles, and interactions between light, water, air, movement, pressure, and minerals. The work develops through continuous experimentation and long-term observation. No composites, no digital painting. The ocean provides both subject and condition.
Exhibition activity is managed through Sachov Art OÜ, based in Tallinn, with a studio in Kyiv. See the Artist Statement and CV.
